Summer teams and summer camps
2 American teams + 2 different locations + working with 2 FCS groups… We’re tired, but we rejoice because we’ve seen much fruit! Thank you for praying for the 2 summer camps that we’ve been hosting for the past few weeks.
We thank God for the Bay Area Church team which served FCS1 from June 27-July 10. The BIBLE CAMP* included daily Bible studies, worship and prayer together, short English lessons, and special interest groups (teaching guitar, body worship, etc.). Through this and friendship, the faith of our Mongolian students grew tremendously. We were esp. struck the last night, when the Americans shed many tears and praised God about how much they had learned from our Mongolian students.
We thank God for the InterVarsity Student team which served FCS2 from June 17-July 11. They organized an ENGLISH CAMP* to reach new Mongolian non-believing students. Through daily English lessons, trips to the countryside, gospel presentations, and many conversations, the Mongolian
students formed wonderful friendships with the Americans and with the FCS Mongolian students. Several non-believers visited churches with us for the first time. Several students asked, “How can I get involved with FCS after
the camp?” One student, Tsegee asked, “I want to become a Christian, but I don’t know how. I feel empty inside. What should I do?” Later she added, “If I became a Christian, I think I would be a great Christian.”
We also praise Him for our YEAR-END RETREATS*. The FCS1 retreat for non-believers on June 4-7 resulted in 10 Mongolians receiving Jesus for the first time. The FCS2 all-fellowship retreat on June 10-13 had small participation (only 10 of our 20+ regular students joined because many had to return to their countryside homes). But we rejoiced in the unity formed in the group and the breakthroughs that several students had regarding
“self-image.” For the first time, they saw themselves as valuable, loved by God!

Finally, thank you for praying for our baby! Nancy is now 6.5 months pregnant, and we plan to be in the States next semester, from mid-August to January. We are preparing our staff team for our absence, and will e-mail you our U.S. schedule in the coming weeks. We hope to see many of you!

1. HONG KONG CAMP, July 21-25 (countryside). Even though the FCS2 camp has just finished, we are already preparing for our follow-up camp, in which we will host 7 Hong Kong-IVCF staff and students. We will go camping together.
Pray that at least half of the English camp participants will come to this camp. Pray that their hearts would be open to the gospel, as we will have gospel messages in the evenings. Pray also for strength for our staff, esp. Chuka and Mesona, who will be coordinating the camp.
2. “HEALING” RETREAT led by Korean church team, July 13-16 (countryside). Mongolian students often have been abused growing up, having difficult family situations and low self-esteem. Thus, spiritual and emotional healing ministries are very influential in the Mongolian church. Pray that through this retreat, students would not just have a temporary “high” but that God would permanently heal their wounds and bring about a revival in their individual faith.
3. STAFF SUPERVISION. One of our Mongolian staff, Nyamaa, has been questioning her calling as a staffworker and has what seems to be depression. One day, she turned in her resignation letter and then changed her mind a day later. Her relationships with her co-workers have also been
strained recently. Thus, we have decided to give her temporary leave, after which she will no longer work for FCS2, but rather move over to FCS1 (a more supportive environment). Please pray for wisdom as we supervise her and for protection over our relationship. Also pray for Lee, our Korean partner who will supervise her during our absence next semester.
Thanks so much for your partnership,
Tom and Nancy
