Tom’s Appointment to the Wycliffe Board
Our transition back to Mongolia has been smooth, and we thank many of you who have been praying for us this past month. We’ll update you on our ministry in a separate e-mail later, but first we wanted to share some personal family news:
* 1. APPOINTED TO THE WYCLIFFE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Last week, the Board of Wycliffe Bible Translators-USA unanimously voted for Tom’s appointment. Wycliffe is an outstanding missions organization which has a good relationship with InterVarsity and an outstanding reputation as a leader in the task of world evangelization. Back in November, Tom was invited to spend a full day with the President, VP’s, and some Board members in their Orlando headquarters, and was impressed with the quality of people and vision of the organization. After praying as a family, we decided to accept the nomination.
This is also an answer to prayer, as we have been praying about having global impact even outside of Mongolia. However, please note that this will NOT affect our current work here, nor does it change our commitment to INTERVARSITY as full-time staff.
Please pray for Tom, as he begins Board service and attends a June 2-4 meeting in Oaxaca, Mexico. Tom is looking forward to learning much, esp. as he is 10 years younger than the next youngest Board member! Pray also for wisdom and leadership for Tom, as he serves such a large organization. .
* 2. MONGOLIAN NEW YEAR CELEBRATION. On Feb. 8-10, Mongolians stop all work and celebrate the lunar New Year (”Tsagaan Sar”) with big feasts and lots of vodka! It’s a busy time for families, who visit several relatives each day and host many friends and family as well. We spent the holiday visiting some of our student’s apartments and our neighbor’s apartment. We’ve attached some pictures on our website: http://www.tomandnancylin.com/photos/ .
* 3. WANT TO SEE ABBY DO TRICKS? We are so proud of Abby’s growth and development. Although she still can’t sleep through the night nor play soccer with dad, she’s learned how to roll over, grab her toes, and… suck her thumb. We’ve posted ACTION PHOTOS on our website for your enjoyment. Please pray for Nancy, as she continues to care for Abby during the weekdays, and for Abby, esp. for protection from the cold! (It’s negative 25 degrees this week.)
Blessings,
Tom and Nancy
