Miracles, SE Asia, and Photos
“While we were out of the country, what happened in your life?” we asked Saruul, an FCS core member. Saruul shared, “God gave me a MIRACLE. Last week, I was $180 short in my tuition payment and was supposed to be kicked out of school on Friday. But on Monday, God gave me a job to translate for Korean tourists for 4 days. At the end of the trip on Thursday, they gave me a salary of $30. Then I prayed that the Lord would provide the other $150. A few minutes later, one of the tourists gave me $50 as a gift! So I prayed again. Minutes later, another person came and gave me $20. So what did I do next? Pray some more! By the end of the night, 3 more people approached me and gave me an additional $60, even though they didn’t know about my tuition problem. So on Friday, I walked into school and paid $160 of my $180 debt!”
The spring semester is now finished, and we thank you for praying for the two end-of-the-semester seminars (retreats). On May 27-30, the EBS SEMINAR took place, with 27 new Christians and non-believers from all 3 FCS chapters participating. Although it was short of our goal of 40 students, all attending students committed their lives to following Jesus.
On June 3-6, the FCS NATIONAL SEMINAR involved over 60 FCS core students. One student shared, “Praying together every evening was the highlight. It was such a powerful time.” Chuka, our Mongolian staff who directly the seminar, reported that everything ran smoothly and that students were very responsive to all the sermons and small group times.
———— BACK FROM INDONESIA, SINGAPORE, MEXICO ————
Thanks so much for your prayers for over all our travels. We truly experienced God’s protection. In just a few weeks, Tom boarded 14 airplanes while Nancy and Abby flew on 7 flights. But amazingly, there were no major delays and Abby behaved so well on all the flights! Nancy also rested well and was blessed by our friends in Bejing during the end of our trip.
On May 17-24, we brought our 2 Mongolian and 1 Korean staff partner to Singapore, visiting the Fellowship of Evangelical Students (FES) which is a “sister” org in Singapore. It was a wonderful time of learning best practices and exposure to how student ministry is done in another country. Our Mongolian staff were esp. impressed with the strength of student leadership, as we visited a FES leadership retreat.
Then the following week, our team traveled to Indonesia, where we participated in the EARC CONFERENCE along with 13 other East Asian country representatives. This being their first trip outside Mongolia, and even with their broken English, our staff adjusted well and engaged the other delegates well. Thank you for praying for Tom, who taught 2 missions workshops for staff, and had many wonderful follow-up conversations with staff who wanted to discuss things further. Although it was difficult for us to attend sessions as a family, we praise God that Abby didn’t get sick in the humidity and hot temps!
On June 1-5, Tom joined 14 other Wycliffe Board members for a retreat in OAXACA, MEXICO. The purpose was to learn more about Wycliffe’s work on the ground by visiting local Bible translation projects. To date, Wycliffe has been involved in completing translation of the New Testament in 107 languages in Mexico alone. On one visit, we witnessed a meeting where a Zapotec man (trained as a linguist) was leading six other Zapotec translators in translating the Bible to four other Zapotec dialects! It was also a fruitful time for building relationships with other Board members, while visiting Zapotec ruins such as Monte Alban.

—————- PRAYER REQUESTS [Please print & post] —————-
1. HONG KONG-SINGAPOREAN TEAM serving FCS1 (6/22-7/3). The first of 4 summer short-term teams arrives this week. Nine students from Hong Kong-FES and three from Singapore-FES will jointly serve FCS1 by organizing an English Camp. Pray for unity among the HK and Singaporean students. Pray for 15 new Mongolian students to be reached through this camp, which features English and cultural lessons as well as a gospel presentation. And pray for our staff Nyamaa, who is directing the camp, esp. for organizing effective follow-up after the team leaves.
2. ASIAN-AMERICAN CHURCH TEAM serving FCS2 (6/26-7/9). Six young adults from “Great Exchange” Church from the SF Bay Area will be organizing an English Camp to reach out to 25 new students from Ulaanbaatar University and other neighboring schools. Pray that this camp will aid FCS2 in evangelism to these schools. Pray also for Collin and Chun, who are from the same church and currently live in Mongolia, as they will join in and follow-up after the team leaves. And pray for Chuka’s leadership, as she directs the camp and hosts the team.
3. FCS MEMBER TRAINING CONFERENCE (7/25-31). Because the summer is often a spiritually difficult time for students, and our staff have identified certain spiritual development needs in our students, we will hold a week-long training for FCS members (those who have been in FCS for at least 3 semesters). Pray for revival of students’ faith, and for real transformation through community, as they will be living together for the entire week. Pray also for wisdom for our staff Borgio and Dong-UK (Korean M), who will direct the conference and encourage students to attend the conference.
Blessings,
Tom and Nancy
