Summer is flying by! We just finished a mid-summer FCS Member Training Conference on July 31, a 6-day intensive retreat held at our FCS3 office. God answered many of your prayers, as we saw over 20 students’ lives transformed through living together for 5 nights, and through hearing sermons and having discussions on topics such as “Self-control”, “A True Disciple of Jesus”, and “Christian community relationships.”

Prior to the conference, we took a few days off to do some REFLECTION on our past 3 years here in Mongolia. We asked God to show us what He’s been doing in our lives personally, as well as in our pioneering of FCS. More importantly, we asked Him to give us direction for this, our final year in Mongolia. God reaffirmed His call for us to continue investing in the national staff we’ve raised up. This confirmation was significant for us, as it’s very tempting to jump ahead and to think about our upcoming furlough in the States!

Finally, we were encouraged by 2 summer teams who came in late June to serve FCS. We hosted a joint HONG-KONG-SINGAPOREAN student team which organized an English Camp for FCS1 (6/22-7/3). Over 10 non-believers joined the camp, and by the camp’s end, at least 5 of the Mongolian students received Christ as their Savior!

Six young adults from an ASIAN-AMERICAN church team in the Bay Area (”GrX”) also organized an English Camp for FCS2 (6/29/-7/9). It was a huge camp, with over 30 new Mongolian students registered! Thanks for praying for Chuka, who this year directed the camp independently (without our assistance). The camp was especially influential on the lives of the Americans, many of whom were so touched by the poverty here that they left behind many of their own possessions (including the laptop they used during the camp)!

Please check out NEW PHOTOS of the summer camps, and of our fast-growing, baby Abby! Go to: http://www.tomandnancylin.com/photos/.

1. AMERICAN-MONGOLIAN FCS JOINT MISSION TRIP (8/3-9). A short-term team from Wellspring Church in the Bay Area (www.wccc.net) will come to partner with our FCS leaders in sharing the gospel in the Mongolian countryside. We will travel 3 hours to partner with a church that is reaching a local village called “Baganuur.” Please pray for the street evangelism, evangelistic programs, and training for the local Christians that we will be doing. Please pray for good partnership between the 13-person American team and the 20-person Mongolian FCS team.

2. ENGLISH CAMP FOLLOW-UP OVERNIGHTER (8/15-16). One of the keys to integrating the English Camp students into FCS is successful follow-up. So we’ve invited all English Camp students to go on an overnight outing to the countryside, joined by another short-term team from Korea! Pray for the over 40 Mongolian students who are new to FCS, that they would be open to joining FCS in the future.

3. NATIONAL STAFF TRAINING CAMP (8/22-25). Pray for Tom as he teaches and organizes a 4-day training for our current 4 Mongolian staff and 3 Korean staff. Pray for Nancy as she will also do training on “Counseling”, and our other Korean partner Lee, who will do training on “Spiritual Formation.”

4. NEW STAFF SELECTION (August). In August, we will be holding interviews and giving tests to 3 Mongolian staff candidates - Chimgee, Navchaa, and Naraa. Please pray for their prep and for their ability to discern God’s call to student ministry. Pray for wisdom as we will make a decision on Aug. 26 about who to hire. Finally, pray for Chris Loose, an AMERICAN IVCF staff who we’ve invited to serve a 2-year term with FCS. Chris will be arriving on Aug. 18 and begin Mongolian language school immediately.

5. CHAPTER CAMP (8/26-27). Pray for the student leaders and staff of each chapter (FCS1,2,3) as they meet separately to set vision and plan for the upcoming new semester.

August is a very full month, so we hope that you’ll keep all these items in your prayers!

Blessings,
Tom and Nancy
