April-May Prayer Items
Please partner with InterVarsity’s ministry in the Central U.S. by praying for these 5 significant areas:
1. Catalyst Leadership Conference (May 19-23). Please pray for this annual week-long conference focused on equipping student leaders across the Central U.S.. Pray for students to develop a strategic vision for being change agents on their campuses and in their campus fellowships. Also pray for student registration this month, as students are struggling with date conflicts and paying the conference fees.
2. Visioning and Strategic Planning Process. Please continue praying for my leadership of a critical long-term visioning and planning process that I am taking my Regional Leadership Team on. We are embarking on a road that will lead to planting new ministries at dozens of new campuses we’ve never reached and to the greatest acceleration of growth we’ve ever witnessed in this region. Pray for wisdom as we create plans, invite input from the region, and build ownership.
3. New Kansas Area Director, Timothy Lin. Timothy and his wife Martha will be moving from Grinnell College (where he currently serves) to Kansas City this summer, to lead a group of staff in planting a new InterVarsity Area in Kansas. It’s an exciting initiative, but I would ask you to pray for Timothy’s housing situation (both selling his current home and finding a new home) and for his transition to this new supervisory role and new city.
4. Tom’s upcoming travel. After spending most of April at home (hooray!), I will begin traveling quite a bit again next week (April 28-29), as I visit several staff in Pella, IA. Afterwards, I will be in Boston (May 3-7) visiting churches and meeting with IV Director colleagues in the New England Region. Then Catalyst (May 19-23) will be another whole week away from home, and I finish the season with a weekend in DC/Baltimore (June 6-8), fundraising and visiting churches. Please pray for fruitful trips, safe travels, and protection over Nancy and the kids while I’m gone.
5. Mongolia FCS. We’ve heard some recent news from Mongolia Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) that has led us to pray with urgency. The government has revoked the organization’s NGO status (which we helped set up years ago) as well as the visas currently held by foreign staff (including one InterVarsity USA staff that we trained). Moreover, one Mongolian staff resigned unexpectedly. Please pray for the strengthening of senior Mongolian leadership in the movement, as well as wisdom for big decisions that the foreign staff will need to make soon. Pray for gifted lawyers to serve FCS and effective collaboration with Mongolian church partners during this difficult time.
*Do you have any prayer requests at this time? Nancy and I would love to hear from you. Just email us at tomlin@ivstaff.org anytime!
