Summer Prayer
Even in campus ministry, the summer is full and the days fly by! There’s lots going on, and I want to invite you to prayer for our staff and students:
**SUMMER GLOBAL PROJECTS TO EGYPT AND ETHIOPIA
Five InterVarsity staff in my region will be leading 2 teams of 16 students each to Africa, on 6-week projects this summer. One team will minister to Sudanese refugees in Cairo. Staff Jean Kung writes about their goals: “(1) to partner with Sudanese teachers to teach English, a much needed skill as many refugees will be relocated to Western countries, (2) to gain insight on God’s heart for the poor and to become his hands and feet to bring about His Kingdom on earth…Some of the teachers & children are Muslims or have a tribal religion, and it is our hope that through living with them we may be able to share Christ with them.” Please pray for the fulfillment of these goals.
Similarly, our Ethiopia Global Project team also hopes to learn about God’s heart for the poor and suffering, particularly those suffering from AIDS in Addis Ababa. The team will partner with the local Ethiopian evangelical student movement and together minister to children and families affected by AIDS. Please pray especially that the American students would be able to learn much from the Ethiopian students, while also being a blessing to the suffering in Ethiopia.
**CITYLIGHTS SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN INNER-CITY ST. LOUIS
On June 3rd, 22 InterVarsity students from across the country arrived in St. Louis to begin a 7-week internship exploring biblical themes of reconciliation and loving the poor. Pray for these students, as they partner with local ministries reaching inner-city children with hope and mentoring educationally and spiritually. Pray for (pre-med) students who will practice utilizing medical skills to serve the poor in local clinics. Pray also that the internship empowers students to grow stronger in their leadership when they return to campus in August.
**STRATEGIC PLANNING RETREAT in Orlando (July 28-31).
This is perhaps the most critical leadership piece for me this summer, as I lead my regional leadership team through a vision-building time and long-term strategic planning process. Please pray for effective team-building, as I have invited 3 additional staff onto my team. Pray for unity in vision and the leading of the Holy Spirit during our discussions.
