Daily Life during Mongolia's Winter

Mongolia's winter was definitely a physical challenge for us, as we never have experienced anything so cold. Also, for several weeks, repairmen came over to fix 3 heating pipes which were leaking in 3 separate rooms. The interesting thing about repairmen is that they usually come over 1-2 weeks after the actual scheduled appointment!

This winter, as usual, we also went to school every afternoon from 1:30-5:00 pm. We have enjoyed getting to know our Mongolian language teachers, and sometimes, when it's really cold, they come over and give us home lessons!

Buying meat is also interesting. The "whole" animal is there in plain view, and during the Lunar New Year, many Mongolians typically buy a "whole" lamb at the market and carry it home (or put it in a taxi, as Tom saw one day)!

One highlight during the winter was visiting our American friend Susan's home. She has adopted 5 Mongolian children and invited us over one night to share a TACO dinner with them. It was a real treat for us. Nancy even learned how to put coal in the oven and cook up the meat!
